Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection Disease (ARI) is an acute infectious disease that
attacks one part and or more of the respiratory tract, while the effects of ARI on
toddlers can cause headaches, throat and shortness of breath, and more serious
impacts, including respiratory failure because the lungs stopped functioning, and
congestive heart failure. In 2022, there will be 14.3% of toddlers experiencing ARI
in Korong Medan Baik. The purpose of this study was to determine the dominant
factors associated with ARI in toddlers (1-5 years).
The type of research used is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional
design. This research was conducted from January to August 2023 in the working
area of the Pauh Kambar Health Center in Korong Medan Baik, Padang Pariaman
Regency. The sample in this study amounted to 88 toddlers and the sample was
taken using the Total Sampling technique. Processing data using computer
applications. The statistical test analysis used is the Chi square test and multiple
logistic regression.
The results showed that 54.5% of toddlers (1-5 years) had ARI, 84.1% of
respondents did not give exclusive breastfeeding, 88.6% of respondents did not
meet room ventilation requirements, 86.4% of respondents smoked in the house,
76, 1% of respondents lack knowledge and 56.8% of respondents lack attitude. The
results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between
exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.015), room ventilation (p-value = 0.003),
smoking habits at home (p-value = 0.002), parental knowledge (p-value = 0.040)
and parental attitudes (p-value = 0.000) with ARI in toddlers (1-5 years). The results
of the multivariate analysis are parental knowledge with an OR value of 4.2 times
more at risk than other independent variables
It is recommended to provide knowledge through outreach to the
community, mothers and families regarding ARI, starting from what ARI stands
for, its symptoms and how to prevent it so that toddlers do not get ARI in the future.
